Sadie Elisseou, M.D. is an internal medicine physician and a clinical educator at Harvard Medical School and Boston University School of Medicine, and nationally recognized expert in trauma-informed care, an organizational framework for supporting survivors of physical, sexual, psychological, and trans-generational trauma.

ABOUT

Dr. Elisseou is a subject matter expert in trauma-informed care (TIC) who collaborates with Perry Law to support their trauma survivors' legal practice. She is a primary care physician in the VA Boston Healthcare System and an instructor at Harvard Medical School (HMS) and Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM). Dr. Elisseou creates evidence-based platforms to train professionals in trauma-informed practices and enjoys education, research, speaking, and consulting in the field of TIC.

Dr. Elisseou is the nation’s expert in trauma-informed physical examination. Her award-winning curriculum on this subject is now being taught at medical schools and healthcare institutions across the country. During the pandemic, Dr. Elisseou partnered with colleagues to publish a novel toolkit for trauma-informed telehealth care, which she has been invited to speak about nationally. She also works with large organizations to help reduce individual and collective burnout using practical, trauma-informed wellness strategies.

Dr. Elisseou is the co-founder of the National VA TIC Collaborative and the BUSM TIC Task Force, and a member of the Trauma Informed Health Care Education and Research (TIHCER) collaborative and the HMS TIC Steering Committee. She has been invited to speak about TIC for audiences such as the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC). Dr. Elisseou had the recent privilege of interviewing his Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama about healing from trauma. Her mission is to promote healing in the world by inspiring compassion-driven cultural change in professional organizations globally.
